Wild, surging energy

Looking across the wilds to the peaks on the Overland Track, Tasmania.

26th February, 2010

I am in the grip of some wild, surging energy that knows no peace. It has been thus for days together. It is the kind of energy that leads people to do impulsive, dramatic things. With this I went about my rituals, thinking there may be some earthing or stabilising to be had through connection with these other forces.

But no, that grace did not befall me.

Nevertheless, I squatted in the arms of the tree, thankful to be there on the soil in the early morning air. The tree, as ever, goes on in stability.

Aha! The difference between us became stark and thus the difference between humankind and the rest of nature. The tree has spirit but not mind. The great epic thing that is mind belongs with humanity and with this, creation is complete, duality is in balance. It is our role to house this thing called mind, to give it legs and expression through matter. This is the whole of Shiva, consciousness, and Shakti, energy. The way to reconcile them is yoga.

When the Shakti, vital force, is raised and strong, the Shiva, mind, consciousness, must be made equally strong and focused, or else there is wild disaster. The Shakti must be focused into the Shiva – that is the only arena great enough to harness it. Shakti lets the mind be great and Shiva must direct Shakti for that greatness to be manifest.
