The Wide Arms of the Tree

I clambered into the wide arms of this tree in Aotearoa New Zealand.

September 14th, 2009

The last weeks have been hectic. This morning, I finally visited the tree, its buds full with spring but not yet revealed. I squatted on the Earth, which is spongy, moist, and cold. There had been a massive storm in the night, a big wind, now just a light breeze.

I closed my eyes and felt the peace of the tree. Peaceful was the word that came to mind. It was a word I need this morning, as inside I have feelings churning. Flowers are all around, the wattle in full bloom, forget-me-nots, stocks, daffodils, freesias, the blue of Dutch iris – all lovely and mixed up beneath the wide arms of the tree.
