Leaves are the Support Team
31st October, 2009
A glowing morning, after blessing rain.
I stood with my face in the tree, amongst the new leaves, and said hello to them, and welcome to them. They are green now, and plump as fresh fruit, bringing in food to the hardworking tree as effortlessly as the sleep of a cat curled up in the sun.
The tree is happy and quite high, relieved that winter is over, the blossoms are successfully made, and her leaves have grown. She kept going somehow without them, then the flowers erupt, but don’t bring anything in. It’s the leaves that are the support team, replenishing the entire organism with the gift of light. They are the family, the hands, the life.
All manner of birdsong goes on in the background and a single giant rose has opened in the lower layers of leaves and flowers.
The petals of cherry blossom are sprinkled everywhere, still pink, but soggy and turning to mush.
