Trees contain the wisdom of God
May 25th, 2009
It is late autumn, and the tree is slowing. Its great effort of work is easing towards rest and slowness. I feel the gentle nature of autumn in which the pressure of nature on the tree is eased, that she might retreat for a while.
Last night it rained softly and there are traces of water running in dark lines on the tree trunk. It runs down her body and thence into the soil, having enjoyed her skin and the winding journey of her limbs before disappearing into the dark depths of soil and planet.
Other things, like creatures, or herbs or bulbs do not endure as the tree does. They hide, or wither, when the seasons become tough. But the tree holds her arms wide through it all, receiving whatever comes, standing firm.
Trees contain the wisdom of God. They are surrendered and perfectly fulfil their duty.
When I say ‘God’, I don’t mean the Heavenly Father, or the Divine Mother, or the Christ Child. When I say ‘God’, I mean only Love, and Love is the only power, the only energy, that could/can/would create the perfection of the Tree, which is both the lungs and the holding structure of life on Earth.
Trees hold the world together. In the beginning, there was no soil and no air.
