Today is the full moon. I took a candle and incense and water to the tree. The dawn sky was dim and holy. The ground was like ice, the coldest yet. There has been snow on the mountain for days, and the winter is deep and serious and sincere, going about its business conscientiously. I said my words to the tree – “may all the trees of all the world be loved and respected as you are,” under the fullness of the moon.
